About

Brasserie De Boerderij (the farm) is located in Park Sonsbeek, a nationally listed heritage estate in Arnhem. The former farm building itself is nationally listed as well, has a rich history and has been in use as a public house for over a century. As owner of the premises, the municipality of Arnhem commissioned NEXIT to design an extension so the current operator could better accommodate outdoor serving and use of the terrace. Adopting the existing building’s formal language, a fully glazed barn-like addition was designed to ensure a strong connection to park and pond. In- and outside merge in the reflections of the monument. Structural glazing is employed in the façade to minimize the dimensions of the loadbearing structure. Low-tech and high-tech go hand in hand.
