About

NEXIT developed a roadmap for interior renovation and some modest extensions to house offices and meeting rooms as well as a new multifunctional space and a ‘learning room’ for elementary school De Wijzer (a nationally listed monument, formerly known as the Van Löben Sels school). Existing classrooms in both the monumental original building and the 1950s extension were modernized, while the corridors were all restored to their original colours, materials and detailing. NEXIT’s new extensions are of a contemporary design, but by carefully matching materials, dimensional characteristics, detailing and colours, they blend in seamlessly. The new ‘multifunctional space’ (the ‘stage-room’) takes up a prominent place within the green embedded playground. It is woven into the existing topography and in combination with the new fully opening façade it serves as a stage with the playground as an outdoor auditorium.
