About

The characteristic and popular Jozefschool is the oldest primary school in the village of Elden and is experiencing a high influx of new students. NEXIT drew up an efficient plan to restructure the existing buildings together with a compact addition to house three additional classrooms and a ‘learning room’. The result of this combined intervention is a gain in capacity of 40 per cent. The new classrooms are housed in a pavilion-like extension and are linked to the existing building with fully glazed intermediaries. Facing the ‘learning room’ to the wide corridor, large glazed partitions offer various spatial configurations and a wide range of educational formats. By intelligent management of multiple spatial use it was possible to integrate the afterschool toddlers care, enabling the removal of the existing ‘portacabin’ in favour of a new, greener playground.
